Description
Wendish Folklore: Its Legends, Traditions and Customs by Wilibald von Schulenburg
Wendish Folklore: Its Legends, Traditions and Customs by Wilibald von Schulenburg is one of the books about the Lusatia Wends or Sorbs that has continually been referenced by all serious scholars who tried to make sense of the Lusatian Wendish world and content the knowledge gleaned by von Schulenberg during his stay in the area around Schleife that lay between Upper and Lower Lusatia.
Unfortunately, for the English-speaking world, which includes a significant number of people of Wendish descent who live in the USA, it has remained untranslated and therefore a mystery for 140 years. This translation by Peter Barker for the Texas Wendish Heritage Society is the first attempt to reveal the secrets that it holds so they can be shared with everyone, Wendish or not. I hope that it will not be the last.
Wendish Folklore: Its Legends, Traditions and Customs compliments George Nielsen’s collection of Wendish folklore that found its way to American and Australia with the migrations of the middle and late 19th century.
