Description
Transcontinental Encounters – Central Europe Meets the American Heartland Edited by Craig Cravens and David Zersen
This collection of seven essays constitutes an important contribution to immigration history. The essays, written to commemorate the one hundred fiftieth anniversary of Wendish immigration to Texas, are unified around the theme of Central Europeans and their presence in the United States and Canada. At the same time the essays are diversified with varying topics and methods of inquiry. Scholars representing such disciplines as history, linguistics, folklore, and musicology have focused on the ways these immigrants influenced the New WOrld and in turn were influenced by the new setting.
