Description
A Wendish Reader by George Nielsen
Instead of serving as a narrative history of the Wends (Sorbs) in the United States, this book addresses significant issues and neglected topics of their history. Although some of the articles included in this volume were composed by other authors, the majority of the entries were recently written by George Nielsen or based on his columns he wrote for the Newsletter of the Texas Wendish Heritage society. Each chapter is intended to stand alone, but together they show how the Wends migrated from Europe and then how they adapted their lives to the new homeland. There were difficult times, but their faithful pastor, Johann Kilian said it best, “In America such a thing is possible. For here freedom reigns.”
