Who are the Wends?
The Wends are a Slavic group of people who live in the Lusatia region of Germany. The Wends have continued to maintain their own culture, traditions, and the Wendish (Sorbian) language. In 1854, a group of around 600 Wends immigrated via Galveston to establish a Wendish colony in Central Texas. This group of settlers founded the town of Serbin, which is where the Texas Wendish Heritage Museum is located. At the heart of Serbin is the beautiful blue painted St. Paul Lutheran Church, constructed in 1871 by the Wendish community.

I HIGHLY recommend the Group Tour and Meal at the Texas Wendish History Museum grounds! My family has done this twice for reunions and have had family come from all over the US to attend. The staff and volunteers are simply wonderful, the guides incredibly knowledgeable, and the food is absolutely incredible!
