Note from the Executive Director
Folks love to hear about the Wends and we love to tell the story! Numerous organizations invite TWHS to have an exhibit during their annual conferences, special events, meetings, etc. We are invited to provide demonstrations and presentations about Wendish history and culture for various groups, and luckily we have folks willing to accommodate these requests. Some of the activities in which we participate include: Texas German Conference, Institute of Texas Cultures German Heritage Day, Brazos Valley Worldfest, Galveston Heritage Festival, Austin Educator Night at the LBJ Library, Austin Genealogical Society Conference, Federation of Genealogical Societies Conference, Senior Expos, Octoberfest, Texas Historical Commission German Heritage Trail, and Texas Czech Conferences, as well as School and Church activities across Texas.
Participants include Weldon Mersiovsky, Jeannette Huelsebusch, Travis Urban, Sandra and Raymond Matthijetz, Evelyn Buchhorn, Dave Goeke, George Boerger, Richard and Cathleen Gruetzner, and Joyce M. Bise. In addition, each year a large group of volunteers led by Ron Knippa host a booth at the Texas Folklife Festival. TWHS will host a booth for the 2018 LCMS Texas District Convention. Wendish Fest, of course, is our biggest heritage event, and is hosted with the help of 300+ volunteers! We are blessed to have so many folks willing to participate.
Each time we promote and share our Wendish heritage, we gain new support and appreciation for Wendish history and culture. We gratefully say “Thank you” to all those who participate and promote all things Wendish!
