30th Annual Wendish Fest

Greetings from Serbin, Texas!

The Texas Wendish Heritage Society and St. Paul Lutheran Church at Serbin, Texas will host the 30th Annual Wendish Fest on Sunday the 23rd of September 2018. Mark your calendars and plan to join us.

The event is just around the corner, and planning is already in full swing. We are honored to have Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison as our guest speaker. Rev. Harrison is the 13th man to serve as president of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) since its founding in 1847. An English worship service will be held at 8:30 a.m. and the German worship service will be at 10:30 a.m.

Featured entertainers this year will be the Moravians Polka Band, a talented group of musicians that has toured across the country with Mollie B, played on the beach in South Padre Island, TX and has performed in numerous local festivals including The Ennis Czech Music Festival, Caldwell Kolache Festival, The South Texas Polka & Sausage Fest, National Polka Festival, and various other events.

We are lining up judges for the Coffeecake Bake-off. If you know what good coffeecake is supposed to taste like or want to learn, and want to experience being a bakeoff judge, please contact Joyce at the museum.

We need Silent Auction items and desserts! Wendish Fest is not only one of our two biggest and best opportunities to share our story (along with the Folklife Festival), but the proceeds help keep our museum doors open. If you would like to donate to the Silent Auction, we are accepting items now. Or, please consider bringing baked items for our dessert booth that morning.

Wendish Fest 30 will be a special day of celebration dedicated to sharing the compelling history and heritage of the Wends who came to Texas in 1854, eager to build their homes and preserve their faith and traditions.

Both St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Texas Wendish Heritage Museum Complex will be open for tours.

We invite you to join us for a fun filled family day of all things Wendish – Food, folklore, folkways and fun!
