27th Annual Wendish Fest on September 27

Mark your calendars and plan to join us on Sunday, September 27 for our “27th on the 27th”! The daylong event begins with church services at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 8:30 a.m. (English worship service) and 10:30 a.m. (German worship service) with Rev. Dr. Curtis P. Giese, Professor of Religion, Humanities Division Chair, Concordia University, Texas as guest preacher.

Featured entertainment this year will be musicians and dancers with the LaGrange High School German Club. In addition, actors with the German-Sorbian Volkstheatre Bautzen and musicians with the Sorbian-German-Peruvian theater band – the Floppy Dolls – will perform that morning at 9:30 in the St. Paul Lutheran School gymnasium, between the 8:30 and 10:30 worship services. If you miss the 9:30 performance, the Floppy Dolls will entertain us on stage at the picnic grounds around 1:00.

Sorbian egg decorators from the Förderkreis für Sorbische Volkskultur (Society to Promote Sorbian Folk Culture) will be here to demonstrate the art of decorating Wendish Easter eggs, and will also present to the museum a collection of award winning Sorbian decorated Easter eggs.

For those who are considering bringing a large group of people to Wendish Fest, we ask that you please call the museum in advance to reserve your meal tickets. By doing so, you can avoid your group having to stand in the ticket line.

We hope you will consider donating homemade baked goods for our dessert stand, items for our silent auction, and consider trying your hand at baking a homemade coffee cake to enter in the Coffee Cake Bake-off! Desserts and Silent Auction items should be delivered by 10:00 a.m. Deadline for entries in the Coffee Cake Bake-off is 10:30 a.m.

My nephew will bring this 2nd generation Ben Nevis TX born Sorb to the Festival tomorrow

  2. I missed the annual Wendish Fest this year! I attended last year with a young German language student attending St. Edward’s in Austin. We attended the church service in German! What an honor! The Festival was so fun and I learned a lot too! I am writing an article for my Texas Historic Homes website on Texas Painted Churches and am including the beautiful St. Paul Church and the annual Wendish Fest! I love all of our Texas cultural heritage and historic homes and buildings!
